Extinguishing a spark
October 10, 2018The Magical Woodland experience
October 21, 2018The other weekend the bearded tit and I attended the 2018 Northern Blog Awards which was held in the rather swanky Midland Hotel in Manchester.
We met some amazing people! My night was made at 7.20pm when my insta-crush Lisa Dawson recognised me [beyond giddy], I met the fabulous Sammi-Jo of Mother Freckle and fan girled her, met the people behind some fantastic brands, ate some tasty food, drank a bit, danced a lot [I had numb toes for a week] and I WON AN AWARD!
Yes. You read right. I WON AN AWARD!
I picked up the ‘One to Watch’ award along with a handful of other amazing content creators. To say I was beyond shocked was an understatement!I had not attended the awards thinking that I would win an award. In fact, I had not been shortlisted in any category. I had drunk a fair bit [by my standards…I’m a total lightweight!] so I garbled out some thanks about how I started my blog and that I changed Kristian’s instagram to @married_to_a_tit! I also said ‘tits’ quite a lot so I wrote my alternative awards speech in an instagram post which you can see here.
What is the Northern Blog Awards?
It is an awards ceremony [and party] that celebrates Northern online content creators.
What I like about it is that it celebrates community, but also recognises content creators of all levels and experiences. Usually you would not have a hope in hell of being recognised against the juggernauts of social media but here you are!
Whilst ‘blog’ is in the title of the awards, it is not just about the bloggers. The awards celebrates vloggers, business leaders, mum bosses, photographers, instagrammers, micro-influencers, etc.
The ticket price included some fizz on arrival whilst we mingled and had photos taken, a three course meal and a brilliant goody bag filled with gifts from the sponsors.
Why you should be going
If you are a content creator on any platform [with a following big or small], a brand, a PR person, a lover of social media then this is the gig that you need to get to.
A few of my friends had been thinking about going this year but shied away from attending because they did not think they were ‘big’ enough. This is not what the awards is about! It is just an amazing opportunity to meet like-minded individuals based in the North and let your hair down. Whilst a lot of events and some social platforms can be cliquey, I can assure you that this is not.
We had the best time meeting up with friends and those who we had only been speaking to online. Plus we had a great time with the brands!
Come next year and see what all the fuss is about – you never know, you might get work from it! What I can assure you is that you will leave feeling inspired and have made connections with people that may go on to develop into life long friendships.
How to bag your ticket…
Early bird tickets will be released soon. Start following the social pages of the Northern Blog Awards or even Holly Wood who is the founder of it all and that will keep you up to date and in the know for when these tickets are released!
Even better, if you are a We Blog North member [as I am] then you get a cheeky little discount too! If you want more information on how to join then visit this link.
Some more photos from the awards…
Photographs are my own except where indicated and these were photographed by The Vain Photography.

Hey Jess, you’ve convinced me this is what I need to do. I blog for two brands, both parenting. Families UK being my biggest audience and I have my little blog that I’ve spoken to you about on Instagram, @mummyavecamour – I would love to be a part of this, any help or advice you can offer would be great!
