Pregnancy, pilates and prolapsing*: The bump diaries
October 15, 2016Count the kicks!
October 16, 2016Holy Jesus.
I had forgotten about how horrible morning sickness was.
The constant feeling of wanting to be sick but not REALLY wanting to be sick is awful. Really really awful. The only thing that gave me respite at the beginning was eating (naughty things!)…and then I felt more sick because I had eaten too much!
It is also tiring feeling this way and can get quite depressing! (God, I am really selling this pregnancy thing aren’t I!?)
I am now 23 weeks through the pregnancy but still getting pangs of morning sickness. It is usually if I have not slept very well the night before (a poorly toddler or my hips and pelvis will usually be the culprit) or I have been too busy to not eat properly…oops!
I am keeping hydrated (which helps) but I also take one of my products ‘Fields of Greens’.
What is Fields of Greens?
This is a multi-vitamin and multi-mineral supplement which contains all the benefits of eating your greens. It is great for those who have busy lifestyles and neglect their nutrition but it is also great for pregnant woman…hence why I am using it! Two of the main ingredients in it are known to combat the effects of nausea.
It contains Barley Grass, Wheat Grass, Alfalfa and Cayenne Pepper which are all nutritionally sound for a pregnant mother and her growing foetus.
The science-y bit…
Wheat Grass is known for its beneficial immune responses in both mother and child and aids in the digestion process (which let’s face it, is all squiffy at the moment!) It also contains all the nutrients needed for healthy foetal growth.
Studies also show that the chlorophyll contained in the plant help with preventing tooth decay, keep hair healthy and reduces blood pressure levels. It also helps with blood sugar regulation which may help with nausea. So all these strange people shooting the stuff must be doing something right!
Wheat Grass also enhances the production of haemoglobin in the body and this can suffer during pregnancy causing anaemia (which I suffered from last time!).
However the advice is that having it in the raw juice form is not recommended whilst pregnant nor having it in large quantities due to the purging effect it can have.
Barley Grass is the main man in this product! Researchers in Japan and USA (1994) confirmed the benefit of barley grass to pregnant and breastfeeding women due to the stimulation of hormones.
It is this ingredient in Fields of Greens that helps with the nausea because it contains vitamins, minerals, amino acids, enzymes and is very high in protein and folic acid. This also helps with blood sugar levels which can aid in gestational diabetes.
Alfalfa means the “Father of all Foods” and contains a wide variety of minerals and vitamins, including Vitamin K which is essential for blood clotting and for me, it can help reduce postpartum bleeding.
It contains essential amino acids which are not made by the body but must be obtained from food sources. It is known to ease morning sickness, promote a healthy digestion, aid in blood clotting and alleviate allergies.
I swear that it is helping the severity of my morning sickness – I doubt that it will completely get rid of it but it helps to alleviate the symptoms.
How do you deal with morning sickness? Any tips will be gratefully received! If you are suffering too or want a general multi-vit then try Fields of Greens available in our online shop.
