I trialled Emy for three weeks
According to research, most women show improved results in their pelvic floor strength after this time.
How it works
Before you begin, the device must have been charged for at least two hours. When you first plug the device in, a blue light is present which turns off once it is fully charged.
The app was downloaded onto my phone and I was asked me a few questions before we got started – such as age, weight, whether I have any accidents, level of exercise, when I last gave birth, etc and I was placed in the normal category. This meant that I needed to practice my exercises 3 times per week for 10 minutes each time. There was a reminder on the app too so I plugged that in and away I went.
I’ll be honest, it’s not the most comfortable thing to insert and keep in your vagina. I have pelvic issues anyway [I had severe PGP in pregnancy and during certain times of my cycle, notably during ovulation, my pelvis aches] so carrying out the exercises was not easy.
I managed to do them anyway and it did feel like I had done a workout afterwards. On days where I did not want to use the device, I just used the app. This was fantastic – most people say that they do their pelvic floor exercises but it is found that most do not comply with those exercises. Using the app helped to visualise what I was doing and it meant that I wanted to complete the exercises. Plus, the app is free!
I will definitely continue to use it – both with the device and without. There are too many benefits not to. I need to strengthen my pelvic floor which, along with pilates, will strengthen my core and the muscles around my pelvis to ensure that I have a strong pelvic area.
Emy will become your best friend
Emy can help you gain better control over your pelvic floor. The exercises have been designed by health professionals and help to visualise how much you should be contracting and relaxing. Your progress can be tracked and you can do the exercises at your own leisure.
It is not just for those who have had children – I know of friends who have weak pelvic floors and they have never been pregnant. It is also great for those people who have lower back pain because a strong pelvic floor can help relieve that tension. Apparently a toned pelvic floor can also help you to reach orgasm quicker…[I hear a rush of people googling Emy now!]
Another thing to note – whilst this is designed for women, the team at Fizimed have future plans to try and adapt the technology for men. Men have a pelvic floor however it is those men who have had invasive surgery, usually due to prostate related issues, who find they begin to have incontinence issues. The team want to eventually work on technology to help men in this area so watch this space!
