Time for Tapas!
July 6, 2018Tinkers Bells: a hen party weekend!
July 25, 2018Parents. Yep. That’s us.
Since 2014 we’ve held the title of ‘parent’ and let me tell you, once you gain that title you enter a whole new world.
A world of responsibility, sleep deprivation and dirty nappies to being with, but a world where your little one is at the centre of it always.
We naively believed our lives would not change; that we’d still be able to go to restaurants, pubs, museums, etc with the kids. Oh how wrong we were! In the early days it was fine but once they were on the move it was mission ‘don’t let them touch anything’ and you had to have eyes in the back of your head.
This is why we were so pleased to discover Parentfolk and their Weekender events.
What’s Parentfolk?
Parentfolk don’t just host events. In an era where we are seeing print publications fold, Parentfolk are going against the grain and distributing their free publication [in print but also online] to parents who live in the North-West. Their content is full of cool stuff – amazing retreats, family holiday ideas, fashion, interviews with entrepreneurs, debate articles, etc so make sure you check them out.
The Weekender Events
We have been to a couple of Parentfolk events and each time we have had a fantastic day.
The last event we went to was titled ‘The Outdoorsy One’ and was based in a field at Claremont Farm on the Wirral. We were promised an event full to the brim with alternative cool family fun, including craft activities, pop up shops, face painting, DJ’s and tasty food. It did not disappoint!
The field was full of tents each with different offerings; a retail tent, calming tent, story tent, crafting tent, drumming workshops, mini disco, food vans, drink vans, ice cream vans, yoga, baby changing and feeding facilities, to name but a few! The sun was shining and we spent time going round the field, speaking to people who we knew, those that we didn’t and had a great time
The best thing about these events is that they are geared towards the kids having a good time. Everyone knows if the kids are having fun then the parents are having fun too! I loved seeing Cecily unleash her inner creative in the Square Pegs trailer – in fact, we couldn’t drag her out of it! And she experienced her first face painting too which was so sweet!
The tickets for the Weekender events are low cost – around £6 per person [under 2’s go free] but all the activities are included in that. I would say to take cash with you if you attend these events because some of the food and drink pop ups only take cash [oh and you might prefer to carry out a retail splurge using the cash too!]
What’s next?
The next Parentfolk Weekender is at the White Horse Chester Racecourse on Saturday 21st July and is in collaboration with CBBC – read more about it here and get tickets. You will not be disappointed!
Parentfolk have recently released details about their September event which has got me excited! The Parentfolk Weekender in September is going to be held in The Everyman Theatre, Liverpool – a space that holds many lovely memories for me during my time as a drama student and then professional actress.
You just know that the Performer Edition will throw up some treats for people who go. We’ve been promised theatre workshops, mini performances, puppetry and more so you can see why I am so excited…my kids WILL join in!!! [drama school mum alert!] This takes place on Sunday 16th September – tickets go on sale Monday 23rd July.
